Indigenous Rising Media is defined on its website as "Rising Up in Solidarity to defend our Rights as Indigenous Peoples; to protect the Sacredness of, the Territorial Integrity of, and Rights of (Grandmother) Mother Earth; and the Rights of Future Generations."

This publication focuses primarily on environmental issues that disproportionately harm indigenous and marginalized communities in the U.S.

However, more so than an environmentalist network, the publication seeks to impress upon
read ers the spiritual significance of the Earth for Native Americans, and the ways that climate change and environmental disasters are harmful to mother earth.

According to the site, their mission is solidified by their dedication to defending the planet:

"Indigenous Peoples will not stand idle as we tell the world the Earth is the source of life to be protected, not merely a resource to be exploited."

Indigenous Rising is a project from the Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) which focuses on Climate Change and its affects on indigenous peoples. Some background information is included on the IEN's website about its founding:

"IEN’s activities include building the capacity of Indigenous communities and tribal governments to develop mechanisms to protect our sacred sites, land, water, air, natural resources,
health of both our people and all living things, and to build economically sustainable communities."

Indigenous Rising Media plays the role of giving a space for IEN to publish commentary and analysis of environmental issues from the perspective of indigenous peoples around the world.
